 ALIGHIERO BOETTI(Turin 1940 - Rome 1994)
Born and trained in Turin before moving to Rome in the early Seventies - in flight from the artistic and cultural milieu of the Piedmont capital, rejecting control and excessive strategy - Boetti was an elusive, complex artist. He experimented with numerous artistic or artistic/industrial techniques (drawing, weaving, printing, photocopying, photography )and extended the sphere of the visual arts to the point of including letters and telegrams. Interested in the collaborative aspect of art - as shown in the compositions with stamped envelopes and postcards, or the carpets woven, for example, at Kabul in Afghanistan - he rejected the emphasis placed on the concepts of author and authorship. To the figure of cultural hero he preferred that of the traveler, the enthusiastic, many-sided observer, or perhaps the gentle madman who splits his own personality (his works was signed Alighiero & Boetti ).
